The 2011 Victorian Derby was an exciting event for Pepper Tree Farm with two of our “graduates” putting in impressive runs to fight out the finish.

From unfavourable barriers, Sushi Sushi 1:55.7 $392806 and Excel Stride 1:55 $137,430 put in outstanding efforts to finish first and second in what is one of the Group One highlights of the 3YO season.
In a class field, Sushi Sushi showed just how tough he is to claim his fifth victory in as many starts this season.
From his awkward barrier, Sushi Sushi worked to the front and then defied all challengers.

His breeders, Trevor and Julie Swan of Weona Standardbreds were present at Tabcorp Park Melton to enjoy his Derby victory.

NSW Breeders Challenge winner, Excel Stride ( Aces N’ Sevens – Arma Dominator) put in a similarly tough run from an awkward draw to finish just behind Sushi Sushi.
